Terms

Terms of use

Chessblood is a free tool. These terms are short and written in plain English. By using the site you agree to them.

1. The service

Chessblood (“we”, “us”) provides chess analysis tools, calculators, opening guides, puzzles and articles at https://chessblood.com. Everything is free to use and needs no account. We may add, change or remove features at any time, and we may suspend the site, or parts of it, for maintenance or for any other reason.

2. Acceptable use

You may use the site for any lawful purpose, personal or professional. You agree not to:

  • use Chessblood to get help with a game you are playing while it is in progress, or in any other way that breaks the fair-play rules of the platform or event where you play;
  • send automated traffic that goes beyond normal use, try to get around rate limits, or do anything else that interferes with the site or its servers;
  • share reports or send messages containing anything unlawful, abusive or infringing, or that exposes someone else's personal information without their permission;
  • misrepresent your affiliation with Chessblood, or present the site's output as coming from Chess.com, Lichess or the Stockfish project.

3. Your games and shared reports

Your games remain yours. Analysis runs in your browser, and reviews are saved there unless you choose to share them. When you press Share, the report is stored on our server and anyone with the link can view it. You confirm that you are entitled to share the game, and you allow us to store and display the report for that purpose. We may remove any shared report, for example on request or if it breaks these terms. How data is handled is described in the privacy policy.

4. Third-party services

Game imports use the public APIs of Chess.com and Lichess. Chessblood is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to either of them, or to the Stockfish project. Their own terms apply to your use of their services, and we cannot guarantee that their APIs will stay available.

5. Open-source software

The site is built on open-source software. Stockfish is licensed under the GNU General Public License version 3, and the piece images are licensed under Creative Commons BY-SA 3.0. Those licences, not these terms, govern your rights in those components. The full list, with links to source code, is on the licences page.

6. Our content

You are welcome to link to any page and to quote reasonable excerpts of our articles and guides with a link back. Please do not republish whole articles or guides without asking us first. Chess moves, positions and openings themselves belong to nobody.

7. No warranty

The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy. Engine evaluations, move grades, accuracy figures, rating calculations and opening advice are estimates. They can be wrong, and they can differ from other sites. Do not rely on them for anything with serious consequences, such as an arbiter's decision or a fair-play investigation. We do not guarantee that the site will be available, uninterrupted or free of errors, or that data stored in your browser or on our server will be preserved.

8. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, Chessblood is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, games, rating points or results, arising from your use of the site or your inability to use it. The service is free, and nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

9. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the site changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If you keep using the site after a change, the updated terms apply.

10. Contact

Questions about these terms go to hello@chessblood.com or through the contact page.
